Google officially announces Android for Work

Google has officially taken the wraps off the Android for Work feature. This feature allows users to take their personal smartphone or tablet to work. This means users would be able to keeps different profiles for work and for personal life issues.

The feature is based on four themes – Work Profile, Android for Work App, Google Play for Work and Built-in productivity tools. Android For Work is available on Android 5.0 Lollipop which allows full flexibility and usage. A Secure container / Work Profile would be opened which allows user access to access apps that are only customised for business use. 

For users on Android OS lesser than Lollipop, there is a separate app – Android for Work App which offers contacts, documents, secure mail, calender and other work apps which can be properly managed by your IT professional. 

Google Play for Work allows for only apps approved by the company’s IT department can be added to employee’s tablets or smartphones. Apps can also be purchased in bulk from developers to satisfy the whole workforce. Finally there are built-in productivity tools which ofcourse are made by Google which are more or less customised versions of existing Google tools.

Android for Work feature by Google is made possible by partnering with a mixture of apps and device makers such as Blackberry, HTC, Sony, Box, LG, Citrix, VMware, Cisco, Motorola and So many others.   

For now the Android For Work initiative would be available on smartphones and tablets but Google is planning on moving the initiative to other Android OS powered devices such as Cash registers and more.
