Qualcomm shows off its Quick Charge 2.0 Technology feature in promotional Video

Qualcomm has displayed its Quick Charge 2.0 technology on video in a bid to show how much faster it is in charging smartphones batteries. The video starred three Motorola Nexus 6 smartphones which had their 3200mAh batteries reduced to 0%.

The three Nexus 6 smartphones were charged with three different chargers. The first of the three devices lined up was charged with a 5V/1A conventional charger, the second (middle) one with a 5V/2A conventional charger and the last of the trio with the Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0  enabled charger.

The Nexus 6 smartphones with Quick Charge 2.0 charged up to 50% in 40 minutes; that with 5V/1A conventional charger up to 22% and that with the 5V/2A conventional charger up to 32%. For the Quick Charge feature to work the smartphone must be enabled with with the technology and a charger with the same feature must be used.

The Quick Charge 2.0 Technology is available on some Qualcomm Chipset and these days Quick charging seems to be a new promotional tool for smartphones. About 13 Android smartphones are compatible with the Quick Charge 2.0 technology for now – Motorola DROID Turbo, Nexus 6, Samsung Galaxy Note Edge , Samsung Galaxy Note 4 , HTC Desire EYE, Second-gen Motorola Moto X , Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet compact , Sony Xperia Z3 compact , Sony Xperia Z3 , HTC One (M8) , Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet and the HTC One remix .

While Qualcomm was proud of its new features and is tipping it to be the fastest method of charging smartphones; Oppo took to twitter to debunk such claims saying it’s VOOC Quick charging is very much faster than that of Qualcomm. It devices charges up to 75% in just 30 minutes compared to just 50% in 40 minutes as shown on the Nexus 6 smartphone.

While the Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology would be accessible to most devices using the US company Chipset in the nearest future; the Oppo VOOC Quick charging feature is limited to some (not all) of its devices (at least for now).
