Yahoo working on personal assistant ‘Index’ to rival Google Now, Siri and Cortana

Google currently dominates the search engine scene but companies like Yahoo are still relevant in the game. Yahoo is reportedly working on personal assistant ‘Index’ which is expected to rival Google’s Google Now, Apple’s Siri and Microsoft’s Cortana.

During a conference call organised by the company to divulge it’s first quarter earnings, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer confirmed the company is working on a mobile search/personal assistant products.

Speaking on the Conference call, Marissa Mayer said; “Those products are really heavily differentiated both from each other as well as from the historic legacy products, and so that’s really where we see an opportunity to play in something that’s mobile. And as it moves to, for example, the watch, and on to television screens and video we think that there’s a really interesting place to play there, to help people make better sense of the content they already have access to, content in their mail, using more context to actually provide higher quality results.”

Sources tips Index to have a pilot version by Q2 2015 as a smartphone app and it would be an ads supported appp. While Yahoo has failed to match Google in terms of search, much is to be seen how Index would rival the already established personal assistants ahead of it in the game.
