Kirin OS: Huawei reportedly working on own mobile OS

Huawei is reportedly working on its own mobile OS which would be called the Kirin OS. Now, the name Kirin is very familiar because the company makes its mobile chipset – the HiSilicon Kirin series.

According to reports, the Kirin OS would seemingly not be based on any existing OS and would entirely be a new one (maybe started from the scratch). The company’s Emotion UI based on Android OS is a testament of its ability to come up with something cool but there still have a long way to go to achieve something meaningful.

One of the main issue they would encounter would come in the aspects of apps, which established companies like BlackBerry (BlackBerry OS) and Microsoft (Windows Phone) are still battling with. Currently Android and iOS dominates the app sector while other competitors hold the remaining little percentage. The OS is expected to debut on a new series of smartphone from the company and which would replace the ‘D Series’ of devices from the company.

It is not the first time that Huawei has been linked with making its own OS; back in 2012, there were claims that the company was looking to drastically reduce its reliance on foreign firms especially the US based ones.

The Chinese company is one of the top smartphone makers in the world and one of those who likes to rely mostly on itself for everything, a similar trend which is slowly becoming synonymous with Samsung. Huawei is expected to produce the next Nexus devices alongside LG. While there is no official confirmation for now, some of the supposed specs of the Huawei nexus device has popped up online.
