Music streaming service, MixRadio has announced its availability on Android and iOS platforms. The service was Nokia Music before it got it name changed to Nokia MixRadio in 2013; the service is no longer owned by either Nokia or Microsoft; it is now owned by Line Corp., in Japan.
MixRadio was only available on Windows Phone OS – Lumia smartphones to be exact; but once the service was put up for sale by Microsoft, there were hints that it would go cross platform. It would still be continue to be pre-loaded on Lumia smartphones (Windows Phones) though.
The service provides a radio-like free music streaming experience which has a library of over 35 million tracks and is currently enjoyed in 31 countries of the world – Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, United Kingdom, United States, and Vietnam.
Also Limited number of mixes (just 4) can be downloaded for listening to offline and users listening preference are tailored based on history of preference. The MixRadio app for Android is compatible with Android 4.1 (or later) and the MixRadio app for iOS is compatible with iOS 8.0 (or later).
HTC has also clinched a partnership with MixRadio which would see the feed of the latter appear in the HTC Blinkfeed; this would let users get notification of their upcoming mixes and changes to the existing ones. This feature is said to be rolling out by the end of May and more services could be added in due course.
