Acer at the IFA 2014 has announced it new generation of convertible notebooks with tablet-like capabilities in the Aspire R and Aspire Switch family – the Aspire R13, Aspire R14, Aspire Switch 10 and Aspire Switch 11.
Acer Aspire R13 and Aspire R14
The Acer Aspire R13 weighs less than 1.36Kg and features two different display types – a 13-inch Quad-HD 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution display or a 13.3-inch 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution – both with Zero Air Gap technology. Just like that seen on the Microsoft surface, an Acer Active Pen which can be used to launch a screen capture app or Microsoft OneNote and it is also Skype certified. Users can choose from processor and storage options – range of Intel Core i5 and Core i7 chipsets, up to 8GB of RAM options as well as up to 1TB SSD drives.
Due to the company’s Ezel Aero Hinge, the Aspire R13 can be used in Six different modes including the Pad Mode and Tent Mode. Tthe device also includes software to reduce Ambient noise and dual-array mics.
The bigger of the newly released Aspire R family – the Acer Aspire R14 features a 14-inch 1366×768 pixels display, processor options range Intel Core chips (Core i3, i5 or i7) and 500GB or 1TB storage option.
The Aspire R13 and Aspire R14 would be available in October at a starting price of $899 and $599 respectively.
Acer Switch 10 and Switch 11
Acer opted for Intel Bay Trail processors for the Switch series for low cost and moderate computing options. The Switch 10 weighs 0.59kg standalone but weighs 1.17kg when the keyboard dock is attached.
The Switch 10 (SW5-012) features two display options – a 10.1-inch – 1280 x 800 pixels or 1920 x 1200 pixels. The device is powered by Quad-core Intel Bay Trail processors, 2Gb of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage. The device also comes with free one year subscription to the microsoft Office 365 Personal.
Finally, the Acer Switch 11 features a 11.6-inch displays made out of Gorilla Glass 3. The Aspire Switch 11 (SW5-171) features an 11.6-inch full-HD display, packs Intel’s Core i5 processor with 4GB of RAM and 128GB SATA hard drive. Whereas the Aspire Switch 11 (SW5-111) features an 11.6-inch 1366×768 pixels, packs an Intel Atom Z3745 quad-core processor coupled with 2GB RAM and a 64GB eMMC bit of storage.
Both the Acer Switch 10 and Switch 11 include Windows 8.1, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, a microHDMI connector, 2MP frontfacing camera and a MicroSD slot.
The Acer Switch 10 would be available starting in Pan America for $329.99 in September, followed by EMEA countries for €329. The Acer Switch 11 on the other hand would be available in Pan America for $399 in October followed by EMEA countries for €399.
