Compared to PCS and Tablets, Acer is much more reserved in the smartphone scene. The company has an upcoming smartphone simply known with the codename Acer S59 at least for now. The device is tipped to be a camera centric smartphone or could end up being a normal smartphone with a front 13MP camera.
The Acer S59 makes do with a 5-inch display and the resolution stands at 1280 x 720 pixels. Under the hood, it is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor clocked at 1.3GHz paired with ARM Mali-T720 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB space of internal storage out of which only 11GB is user available.
The device has front and rear facing 13MP cameras with both of them able to record UHD (4K) videos. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop Out-of-the-box, supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and 4G LTE (LTE Cat.4) connectivity but no NFC. It also has Compass, Light Sensor, Proximity and Accelerometer Sensor options.
It is highly likely the Acer S59 will end up in the Liquid series of smartphones from the company but we don’t have any word on the final name or when it would go official. Back in June, the Acer Z360 (another codename) was also spotted on GFXBench with almost the same specs except that this model has a 8MP front and rear camera and also the screen size is now 5.5″.
