Nigeria’s First Phone Factory Opens In Lagos

With the mantra of promoting ‘Made-In-Nigeria’ products, AfriOne Limited has announced the opening of its phone manufacturing and assembly factory in Lagos. While the devices are currently made of imported components, the Abuja-based company will exclusively assemble its range of smartphones, tablets and other consumer devices in the country, with the aim of eventually sourcing for components locally.

Located at the Industrial Area Scheme, Oshodi, Lagos, AfriOne’s Phone factory spans about 20,000 sq ft and shelters all of the company’s operations including an R & D department and testing laboratories. The factory’s four production lines have a joint monthly production capacity of 300,000 units.

Speaking at the inauguration of the plant, the chief executive officer of AfriOne, Sahir Berry said;

AfriOne champions corporate socio-economic development, while wholly supporting the”Made in Nigeria” mantra. The company models products that utilise cutting-edge technology reflect a modern, sleek design and integrate the latest and arguably necessary financial technology such as mobile health, mobile education and mobile banking. This is all with the goal of facilitating connectivity among Nigerians and the rest of the world.”

On his part, the co-founder of AfriOne, Hemang Kapur said;

“AfriOne aims to democratise technology by offering affordable innovations through our product offerings and removing barriers for large scale adoption of advanced technologies in Nigeria, hence our motto AfriOne – one for everyone. We offer a wide range of feature-rich and technologically loaded product lines from dual SIM mobile phones to educational tablet PCs and even android smart watches.”

AfriOne also assured Nigerians its brands of smartphones (Gravity and Champion) will soon be introduced into the market.
