Along with its new A7 and A7 XL smartphones, Alcatel also refreshed its IDOL series phones with the Alcatel IDOL 5 and Alcatel IDOL 5S. Both devices sport a metal-and-glass body design, rear fingerprint sensors and a built-in ‘Now Key’ feature that can be customised to launch apps, tasks or actions.
Alcatel IDOL 5S
Priced at EUR 399.99, the Alcatel IDOL 5S has a 5.2-inch Full HD display with 2.5D glass and is powered by the MediaTek Helio P20 processor paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB built-in storage (expandable up to 256GB via microSD). It packs a 2850mAh fast charging battery that promises up to 18 hours of talk time.
The IDOL 5S sports a 12MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, 1.25µm pixel size and ultra-fast hybrid AutoFocus (PDAF + CAF) with dual-tone LED flash, and a front 8MP camera with CRI flash support and 1.4µm pixel size. Light Trace and Cinemagraphs are some of the camera features highlighted.
The smartphone is also equipped with a USB Type-C port, 2x 3.6W front speakers, Now Key, Spatial audio solution and USB OTG. It supports 4G LTE connectivity and comes with bundled JBL earphones for improved audio quality. Metal Grey is the only available colour option.
Alcatel IDOL 5
Priced lower at EUR 239.99, the Alcatel IDOL 5 is a toned down version of the Idol 5S. It is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor paired with 3GB RAM and 16GB built-in storage (expandable up to 128GB via microSD). It supports 4G LTE connectivity and depends on a 2800mAh battery.
The device has a 5.2-inch 1080p Full HD display, rear 13MP f/2.0 camera with PDAF, and front 5MP f/2.4 camera with 84-degree wide angle lens. In Europe, the IDOL 5 will be available in Metal Silver colour while the Latam region will get it in Metal Black and Gold colours.
