Amazon has announced the new Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition – a variant of the Amazon Fire HD 8 aimed at readers. It is already available on pre-order for $249.99 while shipping starts on December 9; it also comes shipped with a limited edition rustic leather cover.
The Amazon Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition comes with the Blue Shade Feature and a year of books from Kindle Unlimited (worth $120 for 12 months). The Blue Shade Feature is part of a recent update to the Fire OS 5 Bellini which reduces exposure to Blue Light on the screen before Bed-time so as not to affect sleep pattern.
The feature can be controlled manually and automatically; asides reducing exposure to Blue Light, it also adds warmer color filters on the display. Other reading features includes – Kindle Sharing with Instant Previews, Goodreads integration, Multi-Colored Highlights, Whispersync for Voice, Bookerly Font, Adjustable Font, Immersion Reading and Word Runner.
The Amazon Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition has a 8-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) HD display, quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 8GB built-in storage plus up to 128GB via microSD card slot, 720p front-facing camera, 5MP rear camera with 1080p HD video, Dual Band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth with A2DP and USB 2.0.
