Coinciding with the tenth year anniversary of Android; Google unveiled the beta version of Android P, its next major Android release at the I/O 2018 in Mountain View, California. With this new release, Google is focusing on three key categories: Smarts (Intelligence), Simplicity and Digital Wellbeing.
Android P Beta combines hardware with machine learning to deliver intelligent features such as ‘App Actions’, ‘Adaptive Battery’ (smart battery management), ‘Adaptive Brightness’ and ‘Slices’. With a special emphasis on simplicity, Android P brings a redesigned ‘Quick Settings’ and new ‘System Navigation’ and more.
Finally, to balance technology with real life, Android will also come with a new ‘Dashboard’ to determine how much time is spent on the device; ‘App Timer’ to set time limits on apps; ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode and ‘Wind Down’ to switch on night light when it goes dark.
Beyond these three categories, there are hundreds of additional improvements coming in Android P, including security and privacy improvements such as DNS over TLS, encrypted backups, Protected Confirmations and more.
Android P Beta is available on all Google Pixel (Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL) smartphones as well as other devices’ from Google’s OEM partners such as Sony Xperia XZ2, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, Nokia 7 Plus, Oppo R15 Pro, Vivo X21/X21 UD, OnePlus 6, and Essential PH‑1.
