Earlier this month, Google unveiled all the features of Android Q at the I/O 2019. The 10th version of the Android OS focuses on innovation, security, privacy and digital wellbeing with support for 5G and foldable smartphones, Live Caption, Dark Mode, Smart Reply for notifications, Gestural Navigation and Focus mode as some of the highlights.
On the new OS, Google has provided app developers with the tools to build for faster connectivity, enhancing experiences like gaming and augmented reality. The Live Caption feature is targeted at hearing impaired people and programmed to read out (caption) different audio-based media playing on the phone. This feature also works without Wi-Fi or cell phone data.
To ensure privacy and security is not compromised, Google added 50 new features and changes to Android Q. Users now have more control over app permissions, how information is collected by apps and files (scoped storage). A privacy section has been added to the settings menu and henceforth, new software updates will happen in the background the same way apps are updated.
Thanks to Project Treble, Google has begun rolling out Android Q Beta globally to Pixel smartphones and partner devices from ASUS, Essential, Huawei, LGE, Nokia, OnePlus, OPPO, realme, Sony, TECNO, Vivo and Xiaomi. The list of smartphones can be found below:
