Following days of speculation, Google has officially rebranded its smartwatch operating system from Android Wear to Wear OS by Google. Henceforth, all Android Wear smartwatches have gotten or will eventually get the new OS, and also upcoming ones will come pre-loaded with it.
According to Google, Wear OS By Google is a wearable operating system for everyone i.e both Android and iPhone users. Also, the news of this re-branding is coming ahead of the Baseworld, the world’s biggest watch trade show happening in Basel, Switzerland from March 22 – March 27.
There are various indications that a number of Google’s wearable partners will launch new timepieces with the not-so new software on-board. At the moment, the update pushed to existing watches does not bring any new features and there is no news on any upcoming ones.
PS: Google also seems to confirmed that the below listed smartwatches that got Android Wear Oreo (8.0) will get or have gotten the update to Wear OS in coming days or weeks.
