Apple has taken the wraps off the AirPods Max – its highly anticipated over-ear wireless headphones. The premium accessory delivers high-fidelity sound as well as other interesting features such as Adaptive EQ, Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency mode, and spatial audio for a hefty price tag of US$ 549 (AU$ 899 incl. GST). It is available in Green, Pink, Silver, Sky Blue, and Space Grey colours.
The Apple AirPods Max has a custom acoustic design comprising of a breathable knit mesh canopy to reduce on-ear pressure, stainless steel headband frame to accommodate different head shapes and sizes, and telescoping headband arms. It features the Apple Watch-like Digital Crown to activate Siri, answer or end phone calls and control media, and Noise control button to switch between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode.
Under the hood, it packs the Apple-designed H1 chip in each ear coupled with a 40-mm Apple-designed dynamic driver, unique dual neodymium ring magnet motor and advanced software to deliver hi-fi breakthrough listening experience. The Max has the same one-tap setup as the AirPods and AirPods Pro, and pairs automatically with all Apple devices signed-in to the user’s iCloud account.
The AirPods Max lasts up to 20 hours of battery usage and comes with a Smart Case which conserves the battery by switching to an ultra-low power state when not in use. According to Apple, the accessory require Apple devices running iOS 14.3 or later, iPadOS 14.3 or later, macOS Big Sur 11.1 or later, watchOS 7.2 or later, or tvOS 14.3 or later.
