Apple just unveiled the next generation of iPhones – the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR at its ‘Gather Around’ event today. The trio, which all run iOS 12, are powered by the new A12 Bionic 7nm processor with M12 motion co-processor and four-core GPU.
Apple iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max
The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are the latest flagships from Apple. The iPhone XS series feature 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch 458PPI Super Retina HDR displays with support for HDR 10, Dolby Vision and 120Hz touch-sensing. They also have Face ID for unlocking and wider stereo sound.
For the first time on an iPhone, Apple has also introduced Dual SIM support with dual standby (i.e nano SIM + eSIM and Dual nano SIM in China). The new iPhones feature a primary 12MP (f/1.8) camera and a secondary 12MP (f2.4) telephoto camera, both with OIS and Smart HDR.
The IR camera has seen improvements and the 7MP (f/2.2) selfie camera from the iPhone X remains the same. While the XS lasts up to 12 hours of Internet use and the XS Max lasts up to 13 hours of Internet use, both models support wireless charging and fast charging.
The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will arrive in 64GB / 256GB / 512GB storage options; and Gold, Silver and Space Grey colour choices. The XS starts at $999 and the XS Max starts at $1,099. Pre-orders starts September 14 and shipping commences September 21.
Apple iPhone XR
The iPhone XR is priced slightly lower than the XS and XS Max thanks to a number of key differences. It sports a 6.1-inch LCD 326ppi Liquid Retina display and the body is made from aluminium and glass rather than stainless steel plus glass design used on the XS and XS Max.
It packs a single 12MP (f/1.8) wide-angle camera with OIS, front 7MP (f/2.2) camera with Retina Flash, Dual SIM slots (nano + eSIM / physical SIM in China), 64GB / 128GB / 256GB storage options and IP67 rating (water and dust resistant). The XR also supports wireless charging and LTE Advanced (LTE-A).
Available in Black, Blue, Coral, (PRODUCT) RED, White and Yellow colours, the iPhone XR starts at $799 for the base storage model. It will be available for pre-order starting October 19 and shipping will commence a week later (October 26).
