Apple’s October 2020 virtual event earlier today saw the launch of four new iPhone models: the iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max with 5G connectivity, iOS 14, and Apple’s A14 Bionic chip. The Cupertino giant also announced a smart speaker – the HomePod Mini and a range of MagSafe accessories that attaches to the new iPhones via a magnet.

Apple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini
The new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini have respective 6.1-inch and 5.4-inch edge-to-edge Super Retina XDR display with aerospace-grade aluminum enclosure and new Ceramic Shield front cover. Both models have a 12MP (f/2.4) ultra-wide + 12MP (f/1.6) wide dual rear cameras with Smart HDR 3, improved Night Mode and Deep Fusion, IP68 rating for water resistance, ultra-wideband U1 chip and 12MP (f/2.2) TrueDepth camera. They can also record HDR videos with Dolby Vision.
- The iPhone 12 Mini will open for pre-orders starting November 6 and will be available starting November 13. Pricing starts at US$ 699 – 729 (AU$ 1,199) for the 64GB model; US$ 749 – 779 (AU$ 1,279) for the 128GB model; and US$ 849 – 879 (AU$ 1,449) for the 256GB model.
- The main model opens for pre-orders this Friday (October 16) and availability starts at October 23. Pricing starts at US$ 799 – 829 (AU$ 1,349) for the 128GB model; US$ 849 – 879 (AU$ 1,429) for the 256GB model and US$ 949 – 979 (AU$ 1,599).
Apple iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max
The 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max have stainless steel finishes in four colours: Gold, Graphite, Pacific Blue, and Silver. Both models have a triple camera system, which sees a telephoto lens added to the ultra-wide and wide lens available on the non-pro and mini. Apple also highlighted the forthcoming ProRAW feature, which would allow users take creative control over pictures on the iPhone or editing apps. They can also shoot and record HDR videos with Dolby Vision.
- The Pro model is available for pre-order starting this Friday (October 16) and will be available starting October 23. Pricing starts at US$ 999 (AU$ 1,699) for the 128GB; US$ 1,099 (AU$ 1,869) for the 256GB storage and US$ 1,299 (AU$ 2,219) for the 512GB storage model.
- The Pro Max is available for pre-order starting November 6 and will be available from November 13. Pricing starts at US$ 1,099 (AU$ 1,849) for the 128GB model; US$ 1,199 (AU$ 2,019) for the 256GB model and US$ 1,399 (AU$ 2,369) for the 512GB model.
MagSafe Accessories
Apple reintroduced the MagSafe but this time to the iPhone line-up. These new line of accessories include the MagSafe charger and MagSafe Duo charger (offers up to 15W fast charging and up to 7.5 hours of Qi Wireless charging) as well as wallets and cases – attach to the iPhone 12 models and iPhone 12 Pro models via magnet. The are available for pre-order starting October 16 and will be available from October 23.
Apple HomePod Mini
Apple introduced a mini version of the HomePod smart speaker. Like the original HomePod, the mini version is powered by the S5 chip and offers Siri integration to offer user assistance and smart home experience. It also offers immersive sound experience and works across all Apple devices. It will be available from November 16 and pricing starts at US$ 99 (AU$ 149). Space Gray and White are the available colour options.
