Apple Planning on integrating Shazam on iOS to make media identification easy on iPhones and iPads.
Different reports on Wednesday claims Apple is looking to integrate Shazam into upcoming iOS8 update to allow iPhone and iPad users discover the artist and song name of any piece of music they hear.
Sources familiar with the feature say that the company is partnering with Shazam Entertainment, which has its own song detection app, to build the software into iOS itself. Shazam currently has 90 million monthly users across a range of devices and operating systems.
According to Bloomberg, the integration of Apple’s feature into future versions of iOS means users won’t need to download a separate app. As with Twitter’s current iOS integration, the feature will be controllable through Siri. Sources say users will be able to ask Siri “what song is playing?” and receive an accurate response from the voice-controlled assistant itself.
Along with Shazam, several other applications also offer media and music identification capabilities. The apps use iPhone’s microphone to listen to Sound clips, Television shows, matching songs against a database and providing additional information like lyrics and purchase links.
Earlier this month, Apple has plans to revamp its music store – iTunes in order to boost digital sales. The company is said to be consider a spotify like service (on-demand streaming music service) and iTunes for Android. Also, with the emergence of Pandora, Spotify and Youtube, Apple introduced iTunes Radio exclusively for users in the US. Sources now say the iTunes Radio could be available as a standalone App and could be available outside the US.
The next version of Apple’s operating system, iOS 8, is expected to be previewed at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June.
