Archos has announced a new virtual reality headset, simply called the Archos VR Glasses. With people’s renewed interest in Virtual Reality, you would start to think every company is trying to take a piece in the VR pie; but the developers of the Occulus Rift won’t worry much.
Much like the Carl Zeiss VR One and the Samsung Gear VR, the Archos VR also rely on a smartphone to slotted into a compartment provided on the device to bring the virtual world in front of you.
The Archos VR Glasses is said to be compatible with any smartphone which is up to 6-inches in display size and available across all mobile OS platforms – Android, iOS and Windows Phone but not Blackberry. For optimum experience, Archos suggest a smartphone with a 5-inch Full-HD screen, Quad-core CPU (or better) and accelerometer + Gysroscope sensors included.
The device is said to be compatible with over 100 virtual reality apps and an upcoming Archos Video Player update will deliver support for 3D videos that will create “the illusion of [sitting] in a 3D movie theatre. For the game lovers, a Bluetooth controller for those who will be using the device to play virtual reality games.
The Archos VR Glasses would be available from the French Company and its retailers by November for a $29.99 price tag, far lesser than the Samsung Gear VR ($200) and the Carl Zeiss VR One ($100).
