Over the past few days and weeks, several prominent smartphone makers including ASUS, OPPO, Realme, Vivo and Xiaomi have announced new Android-powered smartphones with 5G connectivity – the ASUS ROG Phone 5 series (ROG Phone 5, ROG Phone 5 Pro and ROG Phone 5 Ultimate); OPPO F19 Pro series (F19 Pro and F19 Pro+ 5G); Realme GT; Vivo S9 Series (S9 and S9e), and Xiaomi Mi 10s.
ASUS ROG Phone 5, Pro and Ultimate
ASUS’s Republic of Gamers (ROG) mobile phones has seen new additions in form of the ROG Phone 5, ROG Phone 5 Pro and ROG Phone 5 Ultimate. The trio are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 mobile platform and have a 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate, 300Hz touch sampling rate and 24.3ms touch latency. There are three non-variable screen refresh rates to choose from – 60Hz, 120Hz and 144Hz, and an ‘Auto Mode’ automatically selects the best option to fit screen content.
The models have a 6,000mAh battery (2x 3,000mAh batteries) with up to 65W HyperCharge fast wired charging, ultrasonic shoulder buttons, in-display fingerprint scanner, 3.5mm audio jack, 64MP + 13MP + 5MP triple camera system, and 24MP selfie camera. Others include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and dual-mode 5G. The Pro and ultimate models have a color pAMOLED display (ROG Vision) on the back while the base model has an exclusive ROG (RGB) light logo on the back.
In terms of pricing, the ROG Phone 5 is available in three RAM and storage combinations: 8GB + 128GB (EUR 800), 12GB + 256GB (EUR 900) and 16GB + 256GB (EUR 1,000 – 1,100). The Pro model is available in a single 16GB + 512GB (EUR 1,200) config and the Ultimate is available in only 18GB + 512GB (EUR 1,300).
OPPO F19 Pro and F19 Pro+ 5G
OPPO has released the latest F-series smartphones – the OPPO F19 Pro and OPPO F19 Pro+ 5G. Both devices have the same 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with 60Hz refresh rate, 48MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP quad rear camera setup, 16MP selfie camera and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. They both come pre-loaded with ColorOS 11.1 and depend on the same 4,310mAh battery with support for respective 30W and 50W fast charging.
The F19 Pro+ 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 800U processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB (INR 25, 900) storage while the F19 Pro (without 5G) is based on the MediaTek Helio P95 processor paired with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB (INR 23,490) or 256GB storage (INR 21,490).
Realme GT
Built around a 6.43-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling rate, the Realme GT 5G smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 mobile platform paired with VC liquid cooling, LPDDR5 RAM (8GB or 12GB) and UFS 3.1 storage (128GB or 256GB). The device has a 64MP (f/1.8) + 8MP (f/2.3) + 2MP (f/2.4) triple camera system and a 16MP (f/2.5) selfie camera in the top-left notch.
It comes pre-loaded with realme UI 2.0 (based on Android 11) and supports dual mode 5G as well as Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2. Pricing starts at CNY 2,799 for the 8GB + 128GB model and CNY 3,299 for the 12GB + 256GB model. It arrives in Deep Sea Blue (glass), Galactic Silver (glass) and a special Dawn Yellow colour (faux leather).
Vivo S9 Series
The Vivo S9 and Vivo S9e 5G smartphones come pre-loaded with OriginOS (based on Android 10) and have the same 6.44-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. The S9 is based on the MediaTek Dimensity 1100 processor paired with either 8GB + 128GB or 12GB + 256GB RAM and storage options while the S9e is powered by the MediaTek 820 processor paired with 8GB RAM and either 128GB or 256GB storage.
Priced starting at CNY 2,999, the S9 has a 64MP + 8MP + 2MP triple camera system, 44MP + 8MP dual front cameras and a 4,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging. Priced starting lower at CNY 2,399, the S9e has the same rear camera setup, however, the front camera is a single 32MP sensor and the 4,100mAh battery onboard supports the same 33W fast charging.
Xiaomi Mi 10S
Few days after the Redmi Note 10 series, Xiaomi has unveiled the Mi 10S smartphone in China. The device packs a 6.67-inch FHD+ 3D Curved AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate, USB Type-C port with OTG, and a 4,780mAh battery with 33W fast wired charging, 30W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging. It is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 mobile platform supported by 3000mm2 VC cooling area with graphite layers, temperature sensors and AI thermal management.
The rest of the specs include 100MP (f/1.69) + 13MP + 2MP + 2MP quad-rear cameras, 20MP selfie camera, Harman/Kardon tuned speakers, dual light sensors, NFC, Wi-Fi 6, dual-mode 5G, NFC and Bluetooth 5.1. It comes in either 8GB/12GB of LPDDR5 RAM paired with 128GB/256GB (UFS 3.0) storage and pricing starts at CNY 3,299 (~USD 510 / AU$ 655).
