Asus has taken the wraps off the successor of the popular Zenfone series of devices – the Asus Zenfone 2 and a camera-centric smartphone in the form of the – Asus Zenfone Zoom. The company also announced it has been shipping 1.5mmillion Zenfones as at Q4 2014.
Asus Zenfone 2
Instead of offering different version of the Zenfone 2, Asus is only offering two versions – 2GB version and the other with 4GB of RAM.
The Asus Zenfone 2 features a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD resolution display, a pixel density of 403ppi and 400 nits of brightness. The phablet has a 72% screen-to-body ration and is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It measures 152.5 x 77.2 x 10.9mm and supports Dual SIM functionality.
The company decided to also use an Intel processor on the Asus Zenfone 2 using the LTE enabled 64-bit t Intel Atom Z3580 processor which clocks up to 2.33GHz with PowerVR G6430 GPU with OpenGL 3.0 support. On the rear is a 13MP camera with dual color Real tone LED flash and a front facing 5MP camera with 85-degree field of view plus can also capture Selfie panoramas with a 140-degree field of view. The pixelMaster software also allows users take pictures using any of the camera; there is a low light mode shooting mode which takes pictures that are 400% brighter.
The Asus Zenfone 2 run on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS with the company’s latest ZenUI ontop and packs a 3000mAh battery which uses fast charging technology to charge up to 60% in 39 minutes. Talking about the ZenUI, Asus has added more features such as the Kid modes, per-app (per-file) controlled privacy mode using Snapview, it also allows user change the look and feel of the UI.
The Asus Zenfone 2 wold be available by March for either or both models in Ceramic white, Osmium black, Sheer Gold, Glacier Gray and Glamor Red colour option. The 2GB/16GB option would be available for only $199 before taxes.
ASUS Zenfone Zoom
The Asus Zenfone Zoom has the same 5.5-inch 1080p display and a rear facing 13MP camera like the Zenfone 2. However it’s main highlight is the 3x optical zoom lens with OIS (optical image stabilisation) and it’s has a varying aperture range from f/2.7 to f/4.8.
The Asus Zenfone Zoom is basically the Zenfone 2 with a more enhanced rear camera. It measures 11.95mm in thickness making it the thinnest smartphone yet with 3x optical zoom along with Laser autofocus and Dual color Real Tone flash tech. The Zenfone Zoom would be available in Glacier White and Meteorite Black colour option for $399 before taxes by Q2 2015.
