The ASUS Zenfone 6 has gone official at a launch event in Spain. The flagship has a notch-free 6.4-inch FHD display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 92% screen-to-body ratio, 600nits brightness, 100% DCI-P3 colour, HDR10 support and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 covering. Power is supplied by a 5,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 support and lasts up to 26 days of 4G standby and up to 2 days of non-stop use.
The device has a distinct dual flip rear camera setup which also acts as the selfie camera and can be used in 90-degrees position. The main snapper has a 48MP (f/1.79) Sony IMX586 sensor with Laser AF and EIS paired with a secondary 13MP (f/2.4) camera with 125-degree ultra-wide lens. The camera combo has features such as HDR+, Time Lapse, Pro Mode, Slow Motion videos, Auto Panorama mode and more.
ASUS made the effort to point out that the camera’s flip module uses a custom stepper motor to function and has been tested to up to 100,000 flips. The company also used liquid metal construction for the camera housing, which can survive 28 flips everyday for five good years. The volume button controls the camera’s flip angle while the Smart Key serve as the shutter button.
The ASUS Zenfone 6 is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform paired with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB built-in storage (expandable up to 1TB) via microSD. It comes pre-loaded with Android Pie based ZenUI 6 with promised updates to Android Q and Android R in the future. The rest of the specs include rear fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C, Bluetooth 5.0 and 3.5mm audio jack.
The 6GB + 64GB model is priced at EUR 499; the 6GB + 128GB model for EUR 557 and the high-end 8GB + 128GB model costs EUR 599. All models come in Midnight Black or Twilight Silver colors and are available to order in various countries in Europe with shipping scheduled to start on May 25.
