BBM for Android has scored 100 Million downloads (installs) on Google Play store. The company made this announcement on Wednesday; the app has also seen over 3.7 million reviews and 2.4million out of it is a 5-star rating (65%).
Blackberry rolled our the BBM for Android and iOS around late October 2013; this stats doesn’t really translate to the total number of users using the messaging app as there other sources used for downloadng the app. BBM is not only available on Blackberry, Android and iOS; it is also available on Windows Phone OS too.
The stats also see Blackberry users send around 1 Billion stickers worldwide; most of these stickers were purchased from BBM shop. BBM shop is also seeing a total of 1 Billion virtual goods impression monthly which is an enormous amount.
Following the record stats, Blackberry has indirectly rewarded BBM for Android OS users by updating the app to version 2.7 which was released on March 2nd. The new updates comes with BBM support for Android Wear smarwatches; users can see notifications and alerts on their watch screen and dismiss them with a swipe of the screen. They can also accept BBM invitations through Android Wear smartwatches; preview messages and respond to messages using Google Now or pre-defined messages set.
The update also bring support for Multiple BBM channel contributors, photo sharing in Group chats and custom BBM pins – a new feature which allows users choose their preferable alphanumeric custom pins. Custom BBM pins comes at a cost – $1.99 USD per month; users can also purchase no-ad subscription for $0.99 per month for an advertisement free BBM.
The bottom line of all the above stats simply points to the fact that, Blackberry is making money and made the right choice by going cross-platform.
