Apple has released a new truly wireless, noise cancelling earbuds under the Beats branding. The Beats Studio Buds is the second truly wireless earbuds from Beats following the Powerbeats Pro released in 2019. The accessory is compatible with both Android and iOS devices and will start shipping on June 24 in the US and Canada in Black, Beats Red and White colours.
Priced starting at US$ 149.99, the Beats Studio Buds is an attempt by Apple to appeal to both sides of the spectrum. It offers one-touch pairing to devices on Android and iOS platforms via Bluetooth and delivers two listening modes: Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Transparency. The former blocks out all the external noise while the latter combines with external-facing microphones to pick natural sound.
Each earbud (5.1 grams in size) is rated IPX4 (dust- and water-resistant) and features proprietary 8.2mm, dual-element diaphragm driver coupled with two-chamber acoustic design to achieve outstanding sound quality. The ‘b’ physical button on each earbud performs multiple functions including the ability to switch to and from ANC and Transparency modes, and control media.
The Beats Studio Buds last up to 8 hours of listening time without ANC or Transparency modes on and up to 24 hours with the charging case. The case has only USB-C port for charging rather than the lightning port plus wireless charging on the on the AirPods Pro. Apple has also decided not to include either the H1 or W1 chip, which means the earbuds cannot automatically switch from one Apple device to another, however, pricing is very affordable.
