Bluetooth 5.0 promises Double Speed and Quadruple Range

The Bluetooth 5.0 is now official. ‎Announcement of the new short range global wireless technology standard, which is now used in over 8.2 Billion products worldwide, was made by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG).

Bluetooth 5.0 promises Double Speed and Quadruple Range

Projected to be released by late 2016 or early 2017; Bluetooth 5.0 takes over from the Bluetooth 4.2 and promises improved performance with faster transfers and lower consumption, in addition to usage for IoT devices, wearable (smartwatch and smartband) and all of the latest generation electronic devices.

The new standard will be more faster than the last (Bluetooth 4.2). It promises double the speed in data transfer, 800-percent increase in data broadcasting capacity and range has quadrupled. This will allow more Bluetooth devices interact better, moving away from the app-paired-to-device model to a connectionless IoT model.

Commenting at the launch, executive director of the Bluetooth SIG, Mark Powell said;

“Bluetooth 5.0 will transform the way people experience the IoT by making it something that happens simply and seamlessly around them.‎ Increasing operation range will enable connections to IoT devices that extend far beyond the walls of a typical home, while increasing speed supports faster data transfers and software updates for devices. And now with the ability to broadcast a much richer set of information, Bluetooth 5 will make beacons, location awareness, and other connectionless services an even more relevant part of an effortless and seamless IoT experience.”
