The CAT S61 is the latest flagship addition to the CAT brand of rugged smartphones. The S61 is the confirmed successor to the CAT S60, thus comes with enhanced FLIR thermal imaging capability, built-in laser assisted distance measuring, and an indoor air quality sensor.
Made by the UK’s Bullitt Group, the CAT S61 has a built-in FLIR thermal imaging camera with upgraded software for greater level of image contrast and an expanded range of temperature covered up to 400-degree Celsius. The resolution on the visible camera providing umatched image optimisation has been upped from VGA on the S60 to HD.
The smartphone sports a 5.2-inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 covering, capacitive buttons below the display, 4GB of RAM, 64GB built-in storage (expandable via microSD) and a 4,500mAh battery. It comes pre-loaded with Android Oreo OS and will recieve the upgrade to Android P when it is available.
Photography is handled by a rear facing 16MP camera that can shoot up to 4K videos and a front 8MP selfie camera. It relies on the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 Mobile Platform and is IP68-certified for dust resistance and can be submerged in up to three meters of water for an hour.
The CAT S61 will go on sale by Q2 2018 for a price tag of GBP 799 (EUR 899 or USD 999) and will be available to order from Catphones.com and selected retailers and operators globally.
