Samsung Electronics and China Telecom jointly announced the launch of the Samsung W2018 at a news conference in Xiamen, China. The new flagship clamshell phone is the tenth product released by both brands and marks the 25th anniversary of Samsung’s entry into China.
The Samsung W2018 features a single rear 12MP camera equipped with f/1.5 lens, dual-pixel AutoFocus and Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). It also comes with a special feature which autmatically adjusts the aperture from f/1.5 to f/2.4 depending on exposure (amount of light). The front 5MP camera with f/1.9 aperture handles selfies and video chats.
The high-end clamshell phone is the successor to last year’s Samsung W2017 and the first ever from the series to be released with AI-based Bixby voice assistant. It sports a combination of metal and 3D glass body – similar to the Flagship 8 (SM-G9298), two 4.2-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD Super AMOLED displays with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protections, rear fingerprint sensor and iris scanner.
Under the hood, the Samsung W2018 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB built-in expandable storage. The Collector’s Edition of the W2018 features 256GB of RAM and a number of exclusive services.
The smartphone also comes with a side ‘Bixby’ hardware button, NFC, Dual SIM dual Standby, USB Type-C port and depends on a rather small 2,300mAh battery. There is no word on pricing, however, it is expected to be priced over CNY 10,000 and will be available through China Telecom sales channels.
