Chinese Firm, Konka enters Nigerian phone market with Entry-Level Konka W550

‎At an event in Lagos this week, Chinese Tech Firm, KONKA announced entry into the Nigerian mobile phone market, with the view of using it as a launch-pad for the African market. ‎The company’s first offering is the entry-level Konka W550 which is available on Jumia Nigeria for a price tag of NGN 18,950. ‎

Konka plans to deepen the competition in the Nigerian mobile phone market which has top players like Tecno and Infinix; ‎and give customers opportunities to experience the cutting edge technology associated with its products. For after-sales services, it has teamed up with Mansales Nigeria Limited to provide service centers in Lagos and other parts of the country.

Moving to the specs details of the Konka W550; it sports a 5-inch (854 x 480 pixels) FWVGA LCD display, powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz with 1GB of RAM, 8GB built-in expandable storage space, boots Android 4.4.x Kitkat OS and is backed by a 4000mAh battery. ‎

For photography, there is a front facing 2-megapixels camera for selfies and a rear facing 8MP camera with LED flash. The device has Dual SIM (Mini + Micro) and a microSD card slot for storage expansion (up to 32GB). Connectivity options onboard includes – USB OTG, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.‎


With group revenue running to over $4 billion and with capacity to manufacture 24 million phones yearly, Konka is a first generation Chinese consumer electronic products and mobile handset company. It is in the top 10 of “China’s well known trademarks” and top three most valuable Chinese electronic brands with over 25,000 work-force.
