HTC has announced the company is stopping the mini line-up of its flagship devices which means there won’t be any HTC One M9 Mini this year not to talk of the HTC One M9+ Mini.
The Taiwanese company launched a mini version of its past two flagship smartphones – the HTC One Mini (HTC One M7) and the HTC One Mini 2 (HTC One M8). Probably if it had wanted to release the Mini version of the One M9, we might seen the HTC One Mini 3.
Speaking at the launch of the HTC One M9+ in Taiwan, Jack Tong, HTC North Asia President said the company would end the mini line-up of its smartphones which broke cover two years ago citing the trend is now becoming a thing of the old.
“Overall the industry is moving towards new phones over 5 inches in size and our product roadmap is close to that of the industry, he said.
The HTC One M9+ is seeing slightly more demands than the HTC One M9 in Taiwan; the device is more tailored to suit the Asian markets with China and India in mind. The One M9+ sports 5.2-inch 2K display, powered by a MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM and a fingerprint sensor which makes it a better choice than the One M9 with a 5.2-inch FHD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 and no fingerprint sensor.
The HTC One E9+ Dual SIM is another variant of the One M9 and is also cheaper. The 5.5-inch device which was also unveiled in Taiwan around April 24; see HTC trying to cement its place in the NT$15,000-20,000 price bracket.
Even though the industry trend is changing, HTC didn’t however admit that struggling sales was/(is) also part of the reason it is stopping the Mini line. The past HTC One Mini and One Mini 2 didn’t have the specs to compete with the mini version of other flagship devices such as the Xperia Z2 Compact and Xperia Z3 compact, thus it’s poor sales and updates were far fetched compared to other devices.
