Corning has announced the Gorilla Glass 4, the sequel to its popular line of Gorilla Glass series. Since 2007, around 1395 products range has seen the Gorilla Glass treatment on their display and so far over 3 Billion devices has used the screen protection.
The Gorilla Glass 4 is said to offer twice the protection against broken and cracked screen more than the previous version of the product. It is designed to survive collision with rough surfaces such as sandpaper, sidewalk. While any glass would break if it is dropped from One Meter (3.3 feet), Corning is giving a 80% assurance the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 would remain intact. It would also outperform the alumina silicate glass composite used on some smartphones.
Corning has started shipping the Gorilla Glass 4 to its different device producing partners – PCs, phones, tablets and it could debut in any device later this year or by early next year (2015). Users can view the product information sheet for detailed information on the Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
