DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa has announced pocket sized TC55 touch computers in Africa. The move is aid to have been inspired by the need to invest in transportation management systems and solutions to increase speed, quality and precision of service; and also to be able to meet up with increasing competition and demand for real-time supply chain visibility.
Some of the mutual benefits for the customers and company includes: real-time supply chain visibility, enhanced electronic proof of delivery, reduction in operating costs, on time billing, operators having a competitive advantage and a more enhanced customer experience.
Speaking on the launch of the TC55 touch computers in Africa, the Vice President of Operations DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa, Oliver Facey said,
“We operate across 51 markets in Sub-Saharan Africa, servicing over 40,000 customers; therefore delivery efficiency is key for us. As a network business, we need to ensure that our shipment data is captured accurately and in real-time.
Our growth plans and improvements are driven by the voice of our customer, and in challenging and competitive global environments, they need us to provide accurate and real-time information to ensure that they maintain their competitive edge and speed to market. The new technology increases the speed at which we can process shipments at both customer locations and DHL facilities and also empowers our frontline employees with access to real-time shipment information which will assist them with workload management.

The TC55 Touch computer is marketed as a pocket-sized, all touch mobile computer that has it all. If features a 4.3-inch WVGA LCD Dual Mode capacitive touch display with 700nits brightness and Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection.
Powered by a dual-core processor, the touch computer has a 1GB of RAM, 8GB space of expandable internal storage, 8MP rear camera, integrated 1D and 2D bar code scanners, and optional 1D/2D ring-style Bluetooth scanner. Connectivity options on the device includes – USB 2.0, Bluetooth, 4G LTE/3G HSPA+, GPS/AGPS and Wi-Fi.
It measures 137 x 69 x 15.9 mm in dimensions, weighs around 220 grams, IP67 and MIL-STD 810G certification, has two front facing speakers and runs Android 4.1 but has Mobility Extensions (Mx) which makes the OS usable for enterprise. It is backed by a 2940mAh battery which can be extended to perform 1.5 times (4410mAh).
The TC55 touch computers will be deployed for use first in Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and Mauritius which all happen to be the company’s largest markets in Sub-Saharan Africa. DHL Express would introduce the device in other top 20 markets across the region in coming months.
