The Walt Disney Company aka Disney has announced a $12.99 monthly subscription streaming bundle package that includes the highly anticipated Disney+ ($6.99/month), ESPN+ ($4.99/month) and Hulu ($5.99/month ad-supported). This package not only saves the user $5 per month from subscribing to each service individually, it is also strategically priced close to Netflix’s standard monthly subscription price.
Expected to rival video streaming services such as Amazon Prime Video, HBO Now, Apple TV+ and Netflix, Disney+ will deliver family-friendly film and TV contents from the Walt Disney Studios, Walt Disney Television, 20th Century Fox (including all 30 seasons of The Simpsons), Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm (Star Wars) and National Geographic. The streaming service will launch with at least 300 – 400 film titles and 7,500 episodes of Disney TV series.
ESPN+ is jointly owned by Disney (80% controlling stake) and ESPN Inc. (Hearst Communications – 20%). Disney also owns 67% controlling stake in Hulu (some came from the 21st Century Fox deal) and will acquire the remaining 33% from Comcast as early as 2024. The former will stream sports related content while the latter will be dedicated to general entertainment.
the video streaming service is scheduled to launch in the US on November 12, 2019 and the combined streaming bundle will be available from the same date. Disney has plans to launch the streaming program over the next two years in markets outside the US. The company also announced the reboot/reimagining of Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Diary of a Whimpy Kid and Cheaper by the Dozen.
