Recently, Netflix added offline viewing (playback) option to its Android and iOS apps, available to users worldwide. In addition to streaming, Netflix subscribers are now be able to download select movies and series to watch offline on their phones and tablets at no extra charge.
In the past, the American video-on-demand (VOD) streaming platform had been adamant about embracing this feature despite its appeal to countries with low broadband speeds. Rivals offerings such as Amazon’s Prime Video and recently, Vudu allow their customers download content to watch offline.
How To Download Netflix Videos For Offline Viewing
To get started, simply download the latest Netflix app update on a compatible Android (Android 4.4.2 or later) or iOS (iOS 8.0 or later) mobile devices (desktop not supported yet) and login into your Netflix account. A download button begins to appear next to play button on contents available for download.
Navigate to the ‘Available for Download’ section in the menu to view the catalogue and select. Choose the suitable connection option and quality of download i.e Standard or High. Standard quality (lower resolution video) option takes less time to download and uses smaller storage while High quality takes more time to download and uses more storage space.
When download commences, a blue progress bar appears at the bottom of the screen, and on completion, a notification pops up with the status. Access your downloaded shows by navigating to ‘My Downloads’ in the menu and tap on any of the entry to view it.
To delete a downloaded item, visit the download page and click on the upper right corner to edit and delete. Alternatively, from the app settings page, select ‘Delete All Downloads‘.
