Entry-level Kyocera Hydro Wave debuts on MetroPCS and T-Mobile, sells for $149.99

Kyocera has added a new rugged and waterproof 4G LTE smartphone – the Kyocera Hydro Wave. The entry-level device would be available on sale from T-Mobile (July 22) and MetroPCS (July 27th) for a price tag of $149.99 before rebates and promotions.

The Kyocera Hydro Wave sports a 5-inch display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels (qHD), a pixel density of 220ppi and the phone’s touchscreen can also be operated with wet hands. Under the hood, it is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2GHz paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB space of internal storage out of which on 4GB is user available.

There is a microSD card slot for storage expansion (up to 32GB). The Hydro Wave has a rugged appearance (impact-resistant design) whilst also having Military Standard 810G certification for combined protection against shock, water, drops and dust. It sports a rear facing 5MP camera with LED flash, a front facing 2MP camera and 4G LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi connectivity support.

The Kyocera Hydro Wave boots Android 5.1 Lollipop OS out-of-the-box and comes with an optional User Interface called ‘Core Home’, which lets users enjoys the feature phone feel. It measures 143.8 x 72.3 x 10.7 mm in dimensions, weighs 145 grams and is backed by a non-removable 2300mAh Li-ion battery which should provide around 25 days of standby time and 18 hours of talktime.
