Some two years ago Facebook acquired Spool, a startup company which offers Read-It-Later features. And two years on, the company has announced it has added a new feature in form of the ‘Save’ which allows users save stuffs (videos, links, events, music, others) so they can read them later.
The new Save feature allows users save links from Newsfeeds and Facebook Pages for Events, Places, Movies, TV shows, Music to a list where it can be viewed for later. Users can access this feature on the Web by clicking on link on the left hand side of Facebook on the web and on mobile by clicking on the More tab. Saved items are categorised and can be archived, shared or opened.
These saved items would be accessible by account owners but can be shared with friends on Facebook. The feature would be made available to users on iOS, Android and on the Web over the next few days.
This new Save feature would have no issue with other Digital saving platforms like Pocket, Pinterest, Instapaper, Apple’s Reading List and Evernote as the feature only let’s you save on Facebook unlike other platforms which let’s you save.
Before ‘Save’ facebook didn’t have any clear laid out way of revisiting old posts given that the newsfeed refreshes and older posts give way for newer posts. And also, Twitter offers similar feature by letting users Favourite tweets for viewing and accessing later.
