Last week, Facebook announced the M digital assistant. The Facebook M is only text based at the moment and can be accessed live within the Messenger app making it virtually available to anybody using the app.
There is not much difference between what Facebook M (or just ‘M’) does compared to the likes of Cortana, Siri, Google Now or even Echo but it not only uses Artificial Intelligence, it also combines human knowledge to discharge its duties.
The Facebook employees involved in training and supervising ‘M’ are called M Trainers. The digital assistant is expected to offer assistances such as making recommendations, making reservations, arrange travelling plans, make deliveries and other random services.
At the moment, M is currently available in a limited release to only a couple of hundred people in the San Francisco Bay Area in the US. It may take a lot of time for the digital assistant to get to the hands of the over 700 million monthly active users of Facebook Messenger considering the fact that it combines both Al and human knowledge.
In another related news, Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg announced that 1 Billion users worldwide were online on facebook in a single day on Monday (August 24th 2015) which is a record milestone for the social media platform.
This also means One out of Seven people on earth logged into Facebook on that day to connect with friends and families.
