Facebook has announced it has opened the Internet.org platform to developers to provide more content and useful services. The internet.org platform by facebook was established to provide connectivity to the over 5 billion people in the world still without connectivity.
Developers willing to join must align with the set down guidelines and principles which the company says it followed when building the Facebook and Messenger app for Internet.org.
Our goal with Internet.org is to work with as many developers and entrepreneurs as possible to extend the benefits of connectivity to diverse, local communities. To do this, we’re going to offer services through Internet.org in a way that’s more transparent and inclusive, said in the company’s official statement.
Many see this move as a way to quell the Net-neutrality unrest which several sources claim this initiative breaches and thre are issues with how Facebook handles the privacy os users without any encryption. The Internet.org app is expected to arrive in Nigeria at a later date this month.
