Whatsapp has announced another milestone – the Facebook owned company now has 800 million monthly active users per month. The app has added almost 100 million users every four month since August 2014; it crossed the 700 million mark in January and almost four months after it records another increase.
Whatsapp Co-founder, Jan Koum posted this news on his Facebook page. The caption goes thus –
“WhatsApp – now serving 800,000,000 monthly active users. Reminder for the press out there: active and registered users are not the same thing”.
There you have it the company currently boasts of 800 million monthly active users which means it could potentially cross the 1 Billion mark before the end of 2015.
Facebook Founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg expects the Whatsapp to contributes to the company’s business but only when it crosses the 1 Billion mark. But expects it to take time to reach the level of other Facebook’s business. In his own word;
“What I’d say around messaging is we’re pretty early in that cycle. We are about where Facebook was in around 2006 or 2007, where, at that point, Facebook is really just a consumer product. There were no businesses in the ecosystem.”
Mark Zuckerberg almost single-handedly controls online communication as it has Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Facebook and Whatsapp under its wings. Facebook’s monthly active user base is expected to cross the 1.43 Billion mark by Q1 2015. Facebook Messenger trails but has 600 million monthly active users. Also, Photo sharing app, Instagram as at the end of 2014 reported about 300 monthly active users.
