Some days ago, The ASUS Vivowatch broke cover at the Milan Design Week. The main attraction to the fitness tracker is its ’10 days of battery life’ which confirms it is not running Android Wear OS.
The Asus Vivowatch is the second wearable device from the taiwanese company and a fitness-centric one for that matter. It can perform the basic duties of any fitness tracker – track physical activity, track sleep rate, monitor fitness progess, pedometer, calories burned, distance travelled and can act as an alarm. It also has a heart rate monitor at the back and a host of health related apps.
Unlike the Asus Zenwatch which has leather bands; it comes with a swap-able rubber straps. The design is pretty much simple, it has a stainless steel design casing, a glass face and a rubber strap. The screen looks like it’s is Black and White with a coloured LED indication light below the screen.
It is dust and water resistant (IP67 Certified – survives up to 30minutes of water not more than 1m), a touchscreen display with buttons on the side and a brightness sensor for sun protection purpose. It makes use of a simplified MediaTek chipset and the actual OS it runs on is not stated. It reportedly connects to smartphones or tablets via Bluetooth.
Asus has created a dedicated website ASUS Healthcare and an app called ASUS HiVivo which allows users access their data and those of their relatives using the Vivowatch. The Asus Vivowatch would be available from the official Asus store for €149 ($158).
