FlexPai: Rouyu Technology Launchs World’s First Foldable Smartphone

Chinese company, Rouyu Technology (aka Royole Technology) has beaten the likes of Huawei and Samsung to the launch of the first commercial foldable smartphone – FlexPai at an event in Beijing, China. The device has a large 7.8-inch OLED display, measures 7.6mm thin, weighs 320 grams and when folded it has three different screens – on the front, back and spine.

The FlexPai is assured to withstand more than 200,000 bends and there is a dual-screen mode where different content can be viewed on each screen. It packs the rumoured upcoming Snapdragon 8150 – successor to the Snapdragon 845, paired with 6/8 GB of RAM and 128/256/512 GB built-in storage.

It is equipped with 16MP (wide-angle) + 20MP (telephoto) dual rear cameras and the company’s in-house ‘Ro-Charge’ fast charge technology which charges the battery from 0 to 80% in an hour. ‘Ro-Charge’ has an efficiency rating of 94% and claims to charge 40% faster.

The FlexPai comes pre-loaded with Water OS – a variant of Android OS. It is priced at CNY 8,999 (USD 1,301) for the 6GB + 128GB model; CNY 9,999 (USD 1445) for the 8GB + 256GB model and CNY 12,999 (USD 1879) for the 8GB + 512GB model. Shipping is scheduled for this month (November).
