Freedom 251 – Current World’s Cheapest Smartphone Costs Less than $5

Ringing Bells has announced the current world’s cheapest smartphone – the Freedom 251 in India. It can be purchased from www.freedom251.com for a price tag of Rs. 251 (US$ 3.66) in White colour option only. Booking opens ‎Feb 18 (06:00 Hrs) and closes Feb 21 (20:00 Hrs).‎

The Freedom 251 is a very basic smartphone which happens to be supported by the the Central Government of India under the Made in India and Digital India initiatives. It sports a 4-inch (960 x 540 pixels) qHD IPS display, runs Android 5.1 Lollipop OS and is backed by a 1450mAh battery.

Under the hood, it is powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz along with 1GB of RAM, 8GB built-in storage space and a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 32GB. For photography, there is a front facing VGA (0.3MP) camera and a rear facing 3.2MP AutoFocus camera.

Connectivity options on the Freedom 251 includes – 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth. It comes pre-loaded with apps such as Google Play, Fisherman , Farmer, Medical, Whatsapp, Facebook, Youtube and S‎wachh Bharat. The phone comes with 1-year warranty and there are about 650 service centers across India to entertain complaints from users. ‎
