With the year 2017 almost upon us, Gionee has announced a new high-end ‘M’ series smartphone in China. The Gionee M2017 packs a 7000mAh polymer lithium-ion battery as one of its highlight and comes with a low-power consumption display as well as an intelligent power management system.
Pre-installed with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) with Amigo OS 3.5 on top, the Gionee M2017 is expected to last a bit over 38 days of standby time and up to 25 hours of continuous video playback time. It also comes with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 (24W) and Dual Fast charging chip.
The device sports a metal body frame, leather rear cover and a 5.5-inch AMOLED curved glass display with 2560 x 1440 pixels (Quad HD) resolution and sapphire glass protection. Under the hood, an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor runs the show alongside 6GB of RAM.
Photography is handled by a rear facing 12MP + 13MP Dual cameras with LED flash and 2x optical zoom alongside a front facing 8MP camera for selfies and video chat. On the storage front, there is the option of either 128GB or 256GB and a fingerprint sensor is also present.
The Gionee M2017 supports 4G LTE networks and is equipped with USB 2.0 Type-C port but lacks a 3.5mm audio jack and microSD card slot. Other connectivity and port options include USB OTG, Dual Band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.
Pre-orders for the M2017 are underway and pricing starts at CNY 6,999 (US$1007) for the standard version while a premium version with Italian custom alligator leather back goes way higher at CNY 16,999 (US$ 2446).
