Gionee has officially announced the Gionee Marathon M5 – the smartphone uses a Dual Battery setup which makes the battery life lasts longer than most smartphones. The smartphone is priced at RMB 2299 ($370) in Black, White, Gold colour options starting June 25th.
Citing the issues most smartphones have with battery life, Gionee is tipping the Gionee Marathon M5 to take charge. The Marathon M5 has two 3010mAh batteries resulting in a total of 6020mAh battery capacity. The device uses fast charging chip pairing that allows both batteries charge at once and faster too.
The battery is also equipped with software customisation to ensure it is able to provide up to 4 days of battery life and can provide up to 62 hours of standby mode on just 5% of charge (extreme mode feature). The smartphone is capable of reverse charging thus it can be used to charge not just one but two other smartphones at once.
Moving to the specs, the Gionee M5 isn’t a flagship; so it settles for the lower midrange sector. It sports a 5.5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD AMOLED display, powered by a quad-core Mediatek MT6735 chipset clocked at 1.3GHz paired with 2GB of RAM, 16GB space of internal storage and a microSD card slot for storage expansion.
On the rear there is a 13MP camera with LED flash and a front facing 5MP camera for selfies and video chats. The Gionee Marathon M5 comes with Dual SIM slots (with Dual Standby), supports 4G LTE and measures 8.5mm in thickness which is considerably thin when the 6020mAh battery capacity is put into consideration.
