Gionee has launched a new flip smartphone – the Gionee W909 amidst much fanfare. The new clamshell device comes with advanced specs and is aimed at the Chinese market where such devices are still in demand. It is available for a price tag of CNY 3999 (US$ 616) in Gold colour option.
The Gionee W909 Flip phone sports two 4.2-inch IPS displays with 1280 x 720 pixels (HD) but only the outer display is covered with 2.5D curved glass. It is backed by a moderate 2350mAh battery, relies on an octa-core Mediatek Helio P10 MT6755M 64-bit processor clocked 1.8GHz.
Along with the processor, the device packs 4GB of RAM, 64GB built-in storage space and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop OS with the company’s custom UI ontop. For photography, there is a front facing 5MP camera for selfies and a rear facing 16MP camera with PDAF, HDR and Panorama.
The Gionee W909 sports a fingerprint scanner below the main camera, supports 4G LTE connectivity (LTE Cat.6) and Voice over LTE (VoLTE). It measures 124.1 x 62.8 x 16.5 mm in dimensions, weighs 207.7 grams in size, rocks a microSD card slot for storage expansion (up to 128GB) and uses the USB Type-C port for charging et transfering information.
