Google has officially confirmed the upcoming tenth major Android OS release will be simply be known as Android 10. The search giant confirmed the move away from branding its mobile OS after desserts or tasty treats (in alphabetical order), citing that these names were not inclusive and misconstrued by users in various international markets.
Google also unveiled the new modern, refreshed look for Android OS. Drawing design inspiration from the Android Robot, the updated logo colour has changed from green to black and will be used in the final release of Android 10. The update will bring system-wide dark theme, bubbles notification feature, Live Caption feature, full-screen gesture system, support for foldable smartphones, and various privacy and security changes including biometric authentication, bug fixes, location control and better encryption communication.
Starting with the next update (Q3 2019), future releases will henceforth be known with their version number. Google introduced Android OS in 2007 and previous releases include Gingerbread (Android 2.3), Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), Jelly Bean (Android 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3), KitKat (Android 4.4), Lollipop (Android 5.0 and 5.1), Marshmallow (Android 6.0), Nougat (Android 7.0 and 7.1), Oreo (Android 8.0 and 8.1) and Pie (Android 9.0).
