Following its availability on Android phones, Android Wear, Google Home, iPhones, smart speakers and more; Google has doled-out support for Google Assistant on Android TV starting with the NVIDIA SHIELD TV, next on Sony Bravia TVs, and other eligible Android TV devices (running Android Marshmallow and Nougat OS) in coming months.
To get started with Google Assistant on Android TV, all the user needs to do is to accept the system update (v.6.0) on SHIELD and hold down the remote’s mic button after the device restarts.
With the new feature, the user can access favourite shows from HBO, Netflix and YouTube; play music from the likes of YouTube Music, Google Play Music, Spotify, and Pandora; check the scores of games; find and play the latest blockbuster; make orders via Google Express; control smart home devices, access third party voice apps, ask questions and have the answers displayed on the screen, and do so much more at the prompt of a voice (voice commands).
Google is also offering free three month YouTube Red trial on the SHIELD TV that gives users in the US access to watch ad-free videos and listen to uninterrupted music with the Assistant.
