Google has officially confirmed Android M is Marshmallow and the new build starts at Android 6.0; which means the next OS build for Android will be called Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Those suggesting M&Ms, Maple Syrup, Milk Shake and others know they are all wrong by now.
Asides revealing Android M is Marshmallow, Google has also introduced the Android 6.0 SDK and opened up Google Play to developers to publish their apps that targets the new API level 23 in Android Marshmallow. All the technical informations for developers can be found at the sourcelink below.
Android Marshmallow promises features such as Doze which improves battery life by putting the device in a sleep mode; the all new app permissions mode allows you to choose specific informations you want the app to access; Android Pay, native fingerprint scanning feature and others.
Previous versions of Android all have good names but naming them desserts started with Android 1.5 (Cupcake); however, all the versions of Android are: Alpha, Beta, Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop and now Marshmallow.
Android M…erm.. now Android 6.0 Marshmallow was announced at the Google I/O conference earlier this year to succeed Android 5.x.x Lollipop OS and a high ranked official of the company has hinted that a major build for the OS will be released every year.
It is still early days but it is safe to say Android N is next but who knows what the ‘N’ would mean? Any suggestions?
