Google has teamed up with TP-Link to create a Wi-Fi router simply known as OnHub. The company vividly has an eye out for offering potential smarthome solutions which claims can be validated by the acquisition of Nest and Dropcam.
Starting with the features of OnHub, the AC1900 Wi-Fi router peak at speeds up to 1900Mbps, has 13 high performing Wi-Fi antennas – 6 for the 5GHz band, 6 for the 2.4GHz band and the remaining one is a congestion-sensing antenna to actively monitor congestion on the wireless network.
With support for Wi-FI 802.11ac and 802.11 a/b/g/n, the router has Bluetooth (Bluetooth smart ready), built-in speaker, 1 x USB 3.0 port, and is 802.15.4 and Weave ready. It weighs 0.86kg, has 1GB of RAM, 4GB eMMC flash, 8MB of Nor flash, IPQ8064 1.4GHz Dual Core processor and a single Ethernet port.
Like a typical Google device, OnHub comes with a ‘Google On’ app which makes using the router simplistic enough. Starting with issues with setup, offering solutions to help, tools to manage and monitor connection, running a speed test, change settings, and more. The app is compatible with phones and tablets running Android 4.0 (or higher) and iOS 7 (or higher).
The Google-made OnHub is available in Blue and Black colour options from Google store, Walmart, NewEgg, TP-Link, Amazon and Fry’s for $199.99 in the US and Canada. Shipping is expected to start in coming weeks (around August 31st).
