Google has announced it is extending Android Device Manager support to Android Wear powered Smartwatches to offer additional security and reduce the incidents of lost or stolen smartphones. The feature which debuted in 2013 and is expected to be available on smartwatches (powered by Android Wear) in coming weeks.
To access this feature, simply say “Ok Google’. ‘Start’. ‘Find my Phone”; users can also alternatively scroll down to Android Wear Menu and click ‘Find My phone’. Both options would see the smartphone start ringing at its maximum volume. The smartphone must be powered on for this feature to be used.
If the smartphone is on or nearby then you can hear the ringing; but if it’s is far away, powered off or stolen – other Android Device Manager tools can also be used to secure the device. Users do not have to download any update as the update would come automatically by itself and some device have already their as at time of posting.
Android Device manager helps to secure either lost or stolen smartphones by totally wiping off all data for the device, making it ring, track it or make it ring. The official Android Blog reports that it has helped around 30 million users find a lost or missing smartphone or tablet since it’s launch. The numbers are expected to go up since it is now available on smartwatches.
