Google last Thursday unveiled plans it was working on a tablet computer with 3D applications, computer vision and advanced sensing tools. The Project Tango Developer Tablet Kit can be used to make apps that track full 3D motion and recognise surface of things nearby.
The currently released version of the project is the Project Tango Developer Tablet Kit as the smartphone version had been already released back in February. Google created the Project Tango Developer Tablet Kit was created in conjuction with NVIDIA as the kit makes use of the Tegra K1 Chip.
The Devloper tablet kit features a 7-inch 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution display, powered by a NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Other features include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, a motion tracking camera, integrated depth sensing and also runs on Android 4.4 kitkat.
More technology giants are focussing on 3D and advanced platforms – Apple acquired 3D sensor company PrimeSense last November. Even the Project Tango is project by Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects group, a division Google gained from its acquisition of Motorola Mobility for $12.5 Billion in 2012 (Motorola handset business has been sold to Chinese PC maker, Lenovo).
The device is meant for developers and would be retailed by late June for $1024 (around N168,000 in Naira). In a case similar to that of Google Glass, the Project Tango Development tablet kit would be available in a very limited quantity.
