Google Maps for Android Wear is now official; the new API for Android wear allows you receive directions on your wrist without having to consult your smartphone and thereby helping you keep your eyes on the road.
The Maps API for Android Wear was announced at the Google I/O 2015 Event back in May to developers to take advantage of the code to be able to use in in their apps. Using Google Maps on Android Wear is very easy, by just saying “Ok Google, navigate to ….” will launch the app and thereby navigating to the desired location.
Once the voice command is initiated, directions would come in a full screen navigation mode and a detailed turn-by-turn guide to help you locate wherever you are going. Despite the always-on screen feature support on Android Wear, maps will be able to run in battery saving mode showing the display in a toned down black and white when the display is not actively being looked at.
So far apps like HotelTonight, Priceline, FourSquare, CityMapper, TripAdvisor, Glymse, Trulia, Zillow all integrate well with Google Maps for Android Wear and more could join up later.
Google has been actively looking for more ways to make the Android Wear platform more useful and so far, updates like being able to see notifications in a glance and ‘Ok Google’ voice command means it is on course to do so.
